The Government yesterday unveiled the MSME Strategic Plan 2025–2030, a comprehensive initiative designed to empower micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and enhance their role as crucial contributors to inclusive and sustainable economic growth. The launch took place at the Civic Centre in Suva and was officiated by Finance Minister Esrom Immanuel.

This strategic plan focuses on eight priority areas aimed at boosting resilience, encouraging innovation, and addressing the persistent challenges faced by MSMEs throughout the country. A significant aspect of the plan is the introduction of a clear national definition for MSMEs, along with the establishment of a centralized database to support effective policymaking.

Minister Immanuel emphasized the Government’s commitment to coordinating MSME initiatives, which will help minimize duplication of efforts and ensure that resources are directed to those who need them the most. He noted that modernizing the co-operative movement will be a key focus through legal reforms, digital registration, and capacity-building initiatives intended to support greater market participation.

To alleviate the burden on MSMEs, the plan includes simplifying regulatory and compliance processes. Furthermore, the Government aims to enhance entrepreneurship support through a variety of training, mentorship, and incubation programs, with particular emphasis on empowering women, youth, and rural enterprises.

The MSME Strategic Plan also aims to improve market access through e-commerce, branding, and logistics solutions while addressing workforce and skills gaps through targeted training and inclusive labor policies. By creating a robust, interconnected MSME ecosystem, Fijian businesses will be better equipped to flourish and compete in local, regional, and global markets.

Access to finance will be another critical area of focus, with efforts directed towards diversifying financial products, boosting financial literacy, promoting digital payment solutions, and exploring dedicated financing mechanisms specifically for MSMEs. These collective efforts signify a hopeful step towards strengthening the MSME sector, with the potential to drive substantial economic progress and innovation throughout Fiji.
