Authorities are set to seize assets exceeding $400,000, including cash, property, and vehicles, linked to a significant methamphetamine case. The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has lauded a recent ruling by the Suva High Court that issued a permanent restraining order on the assets belonging to Imran Khan, Deborah Kim, and Rajneel Rohit.
This legal development follows an interim ruling earlier in 2023 after border officials intercepted a package from the United States containing over one kilogram of methamphetamine. The interception prompted a controlled delivery operation, which led to arrests and the subsequent seizure of drugs, cash, and other related assets.
In her ruling, Justice Senileba Levaci noted compelling evidence indicating that the assets could not be accounted for by legitimate income sources. Consequently, the court has classified more than $404,000 held at Bred Bank, a three-bedroom house in Valelevu, and four vehicles, including models from BMW and Toyota, as unexplained wealth.
The ODPP is now moving forward to have these assets forfeited to the State, emphasizing its commitment to eliminating the profits linked to illegal drug activities. The office reiterated its dedication to pursuing unexplained wealth, ensuring that the proceeds of crime are reclaimed through legal avenues. This action reflects a broader effort to combat drug-related crime and protect the community from the impacts of illegal drug trade.
