A flash flood alert has been issued for all of Fiji as a trough of low pressure continues to dump heavy rainfall across the nation. The National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi has reported that this system is causing widespread cloud cover and rain, with isolated heavy downpours significantly heightening the risk of flash flooding.

Local authorities have warned that flooding could impact drainage systems, small streams, low-water bridges, Irish crossings, roads, and properties situated in low-lying areas. The alert is informed by data from the Fiji Flash Flood Guidance System, rainfall forecast models, and continuous monitoring of weather radar.

Residents are advised to steer clear of flooded crossings, stay updated on weather developments, and remain vigilant for sudden changes in conditions. Despite the challenging weather, the community’s resilience and preparedness may help mitigate potential impacts, reinforcing the importance of staying informed during such adverse weather events.
