The Sportsworld Fiji Under-20 rugby team delivered an impressive signature performance as they kicked off their campaign at the Oceania Under-20 Rugby Championship, defeating Tonga with a score of 46-22 at King Charles Park in Nadi.

Right from the start, Fiji made their intentions clear, with Josaia Ralulu scoring a try shortly after the kickoff, which set the tone for the match. Pita Manamanaivalu quickly followed with another try for Fiji, taking advantage of a converted penalty by Tonga. Emosi Nuku was also vital to Fiji’s offensive, scoring the third try after hooker Moses Armstrong Ravula’s quick reaction. By the time halfback Adam Khan added a try, the score had extended to 22-3, demonstrating Fiji’s decisive control in the first half.

At halftime, the scoreboard read 34-10 in favor of Fiji, but they did not slacken their grip on the game as captain Iliesa Erenavula quickly scored another try after the break. With a substantial lead of 41-10, Tonga attempted a resurgence, with fullback Siua Vaitai and Penisamani Fanua each crossing the try line, bringing the score to 41-22. Fiji’s flyhalf Asi Fuli capped off the match with a final try, ensuring a comprehensive victory.

Looking ahead, the teams are set to meet again next Monday, with Fiji scheduled to take on Canada, while Tonga will face Samoa. This ongoing tournament not only showcases the unfolding talent within the Pacific rugby community but also emphasizes camaraderie and development within the sport.
