The Fiji under-15 girls hockey team achieved an impressive victory against the Australia Wanderers, winning their match with a score of 1-0 at the National Hockey turf in Suva. This marks a significant achievement for the young athletes as they embark on their tournament journey.
In other matches from the Wanderers Games, the results were mixed for both boys and girls teams. The boys’ team played against the Wanderers Goannas, resulting in a 1-3 loss, while another boys’ match against the Emus ended in a 0-2 defeat. On a brighter note for the girls’ teams, the second Fiji girls team triumphed over the Emus with a score of 2-1, showcasing their potential on the field.
However, the games faced a temporary disruption when heavy rain forced officials to halt play with four minutes remaining in a match, as the conditions rendered the playing surface unplayable. Despite this setback, the competition is slated to continue tomorrow, offering the teams another opportunity to shine.
This victory and the ongoing tournament reflect the growing talent and competitiveness of Fiji’s young hockey players and foster hope for a bright future in the sport.
