The Digicel Fiji U16 team is returning from Tahiti tomorrow after successfully qualifying for the FIFA U17 World Cup during the OFC U16 Championship. Coach Sunil Kumar has announced that preparations are already in motion to arrange friendly matches to gear up for the World Cup.
Kumar noted that talks are underway with coaches from New Zealand and New Caledonia to establish a tri-nation series aimed at enhancing the performance of all three teams before the global tournament.
“Organizing test matches is our top priority at the moment. Immediately after the final, we explored the possibility of friendlies or a tri-nation series to support each other’s development and improvement,” Kumar stated. He also mentioned that this initiative will depend on the respective football boards to evaluate and make the necessary decisions.
