Koleta Likuculacula netted two goals as Fiji secured a 2-1 victory over Tahiti in their inaugural match of the OFC Women’s Futsal Championship held in the Solomon Islands. The game came alive in the latter part of the first half when Tahiti took the lead in the 15th minute, courtesy of Remeha.
Fiji quickly equalized, with Likuculacula demonstrating skill as she controlled the ball on the right side of the Tahiti box, cutting onto her left foot and firing a shot past Tahiti goalkeeper Corail Harry. The match took a turn for Tahiti when Ninauea Hioe was shown a red card for receiving a second yellow, leaving her team with one player down for two minutes.
Despite their advantage, Fiji could not capitalize immediately but soon found the breakthrough with just minutes remaining. Tahiti’s goalkeeper Harry performed a remarkable double save from a free-kick by Fiji’s Cema Nasau but was unable to prevent Likuculacula from scoring her second goal, which confirmed Fiji’s victory.
