Fiji's tourism industry is currently facing a wave of booking cancellations influenced by airline adjustments tied to ongoing global conflicts, particularly in the Middle East. Paresh Pant, CEO of Tourism Fiji, shared that as a response to these disruptions, the industry is advocating for operators to provide greater flexibility for affected travelers. This includes offering full refunds, allowing for date changes without additional fees, or providing credits for future stays.

Despite these challenges, Pant reaffirmed that Fiji’s geographic location remains a reassuring factor for travelers, differentiating it from areas directly impacted by conflict. He noted that while adjustments by Air New Zealand could potentially affect visitor numbers from New Zealand, there is still a strong interest in traveling to Fiji.

Tourism Fiji has proactively launched targeted marketing campaigns in the New Zealand market to mitigate any fluctuations in demand. Pant emphasized that, so far, demand from key source markets, including New Zealand, Australia, the United States, and parts of Asia, has not shown significant changes. He acknowledged that any shifts in travel sentiment typically take some time to manifest in booking patterns, reinforcing that during uncertain global times, travelers tend to seek accessible and safe destinations like Fiji.
