Tourism Fiji’s chief executive officer, Dr. Paresh Pant, has emphasized that the safety and well-being of all visitors to Fiji is of utmost importance. This statement comes in the wake of the tragic drowning of a five-year-old tourist on the Coral Coast, an incident that has raised concerns among travelers and the local community alike.
“We are deeply saddened by this tragic loss, and our heartfelt condolences go out to the child’s family during this profoundly difficult time,” Dr. Pant expressed. He also extended thoughts to those in the local community who have been affected by the incident.
Dr. Pant underscored that while Tourism Fiji does not directly oversee or manage tourism activities, they encourage visitors to exercise caution during adverse weather conditions. He advised that travelers should stay informed by following updates from weather agencies and utilize official tourism operators, as conditions in natural environments can change rapidly.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the child’s drowning is ongoing, with officials looking into various aspects of the incident. Although questions were directed to the Ministry of Tourism regarding the matter, responses have yet to be provided.
In light of this tragedy, the tourism sector is reminded of the importance of safety measures and the need for vigilance among both visitors and operators. It is hoped that such incidents prompt enhanced awareness and precautions to better protect tourists in the future.
