Fiji’s tourism sector has reported an impressive revenue of $2.1 billion for the first nine months of 2025, according to recent statements from Tourism Fiji. Dr. Paresh Pant, the CEO of Tourism Fiji, shared these insights during an email interview, highlighting that the accommodation and air passenger transport industries played significant roles in this financial success.
The remarkable figures reflect vigorous visitor spending on accommodation, experiences, and air travel to and within Fiji. The Fiji Bureau of Statistics (FBoS) has also released its provisional visitor arrival statistics for 2025, revealing a record high of 986,367 annual arrivals, driven primarily by travelers from Australia and New Zealand. Holidaymakers constituted the bulk of these visitors, underscoring the popularity of Fiji as a premier destination.
Dr. Pant emphasized this achievement as a product of collaborative efforts from the entire tourism industry, which has focused on strategic global marketing and delivering authentic experiences that resonate with Fiji’s key markets. Looking ahead, the goal for 2026 is to surpass this year’s figures, with careful consideration given to factors such as occupancy rates, room supply, air capacity, and the competitive landscape faced by global destinations.
Sustainable growth is a top priority for Tourism Fiji, ensuring that the unique cultural appeal and exclusivity of the island remain intact for visitors. Dr. Pant noted that several accommodation projects are currently underway, with hopes for increased room availability in the near future. However, he pointed out that while Fiji Airways has expanded its capacity, the growth in accommodation has not kept pace, posing a challenge that requires careful attention.
Additionally, Dr. Pant stressed the importance of maintaining a consistent year-round occupancy for new accommodations, rather than merely focusing on peak seasons. Ongoing marketing and tactical campaigns, developed in close partnership with industry stakeholders, will be essential in achieving this goal. To further this commitment, Tourism Fiji will continue engaging with its partners through open discussions, aligning seasonal planning, and exploring collaborative opportunities to enhance the destination’s appeal.
This positive outlook for Fiji’s tourism industry signals a promising future, with a focus not only on growth but also on preserving the cultural richness that makes Fiji a beloved travel destination for many.
