The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) has announced new regulated prices for fuel and LPG, set to take effect from midnight tonight. Under the updated pricing structure, consumers will notice an increase in the retail prices of unleaded petrol, premix, kerosene, and diesel, while Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) prices will see a decline.
Specifically, the price of motor spirit will rise by four cents, reaching $2.61 per litre, with premix also increasing by the same amount to $2.45 per litre. Diesel will see a notable increase of eight cents, bringing its price to $2.35 per litre, while kerosene, which is exempt from VAT, will rise by nine cents to $1.86 per litre.
On a more positive note, consumers will benefit from a reduction in LPG prices. The cost for a 4.5kg LPG cylinder will decrease by 29 cents to $13.33, and the price for a 12kg cylinder will drop by 78 cents to $35.55. Additionally, bulk LPG prices will fall by six cents per kilogram to $2.74, while autogas prices will decrease by four cents to $1.88 per litre.
The FCCC noted that the price adjustments are based on fuel and butane imports made by companies in November, accounting for a one-month lag period in pricing. This review process aims to reflect the fluctuations of global market trends and ensures that Fiji’s fuel prices remain fair and reasonable for all consumers. The FCCC is committed to continuing its monitoring of the market to uphold these standards.
