Two international boxing teams are set to compete in a tri-nation event later this month at the FMF Gymnasium in Suva, Fiji. The event, organized by the Fiji Amateur Boxing Association, will feature a team of 30 boxers from Australia and a 10-member squad from Samoa.
Cam Todd, the head coach of Fiji Amateur Boxing, stated that invitations will be sent out to boxing clubs across Fiji to encourage local participation in what promises to be an exciting competition. The event aims to include boxers across various age groups, specifically those from 12 years old to under-19, and will feature both male and female competitors.
With the Australian team comprising several state champions and elite fighters, this event represents a valuable opportunity for local boxers to gauge their skills against top-level opponents. The competition is scheduled for the 27th and 28th of this month, providing two days filled with intense bouts.
Additionally, this event follows the successful participation of an all-female boxing team from Victoria, Australia, which recently competed in Fiji, marking a significant step forward in promoting female boxing in the region. Todd has emphasized the importance of women’s boxing and aims to develop opportunities for women of all ages to engage in the sport.
As the upcoming tri-nation boxing event approaches, it reflects the growing interest and commitment to the sport within Fiji, promising a future of increased opportunities for local athletes. Community support will be crucial in fostering this development, with Todd encouraging everyone to attend and cheer on their local boxers.
This initiative not only showcases the talent present in Fiji but also underlines the potential for international collaboration in sports, paving the way for even more events in the future. With increasing participation and support, Fiji’s boxing community is poised for a brighter future, marked by growth and success on the international stage.
