Fiji Taekwondo is set to enhance the quality of officiating in the sport significantly with an upcoming referees training course scheduled for next month. This initiative is part of a broader effort to improve understanding and officiating standards at all levels of Taekwondo in Fiji.

Acting national coach Neelu Nand announced that the course will be conducted by officials from Oceania Taekwondo, targeting athletes and black belts. Nand emphasized that this training is essential for developing new referees while also educating athletes about how matches are judged under the latest international rules. This hands-on experience is pivotal as participants will officiate a local competition immediately following the training, supervised by the visiting officials.

“We’re building a full pathway from club to country,” Nand stated, highlighting the course as part of an effort to foster grassroots involvement and elevate the quality of competition within the sport. The initiative aims to cultivate not just referee skills but also to help athletes enhance their comprehension of match dynamics.

Nand further noted that creating more events and training opportunities for youth and para-athletes is crucial for the sport’s future in Fiji. He expressed optimism, stating, “The more they compete, the better they become,” driving home the importance of competitive exposure for young athletes.

With support from organizations like World Taekwondo and FASANOC, the initiative underscores the collective commitment to youth participation in Taekwondo, aiming to instill confidence, fitness, and self-control in the young practitioners. By integrating these educational efforts and competitions, there is hope for a stronger, more vibrant Taekwondo community in the country.

This course marks a significant stride towards not only improving the officiating standards but also fostering a culture of excellence and dedication among young Taekwondo athletes in Fiji.
