As various sporting organizations in Fiji work to secure funding for their athletes ahead of the Pacific Mini Games in Palau, Fiji Swimming has taken significant steps by covering a substantial portion of the expenses for its 16 swimmers. Each athlete typically faces a levy of $3,000 to compete, but Fiji Swimming has committed to paying approximately $2,500 for each participant, easing the financial burden on families.

Moreen Kwong, a parent with three children participating in the Mini Games, expressed her gratitude, noting how this support has significantly alleviated her financial concerns. “We are pretty blessed that Fiji Swimming has stepped in,” she said, underscoring the positive impact of the federation’s assistance as her children, Theola and Thaddeus, prepare to represent Fiji for the first time together.

The upcoming Pacific Mini Games is set to kick off on June 29, offering a platform for athletes to showcase their skills on an international stage. This event embodies not only the athletic aspirations of young swimmers but also represents broader community efforts to support sports in Fiji.

Similar fundraising trends have been observed across other sports federations, with many engaging in campaigns and community events to help offset the costs associated with the Mini Games. The collaborative efforts highlight the resilience and unity within the Fijian sports community as they prioritize their athletes’ needs, aspiring for success both individually and collectively.

As the games approach, the backing from organizations like Fiji Swimming and the community at large fosters a sense of hope and excitement. The dedication displayed by both athletes and their supporters signifies a strong commitment to striving for excellence on this prestigious platform, reinforcing national pride as they prepare to compete in Palau.
