The Sugarcane Growers Fund Board has been urged to focus on strategic planning, robust monitoring, and performance-based accountability to better assist Fiji’s sugarcane farmers. During a recent board meeting in Lautoka, Minister for Multi-Ethnic Affairs and Sugar Industry Charan Jeath Singh emphasized the importance of these measures.

Singh commended the SCGF’s grower-focused approach, noting the benefits of initiatives like sustainable returns, accessible loans, and mortgage protection insurance designed to support farmers. Furthermore, he praised the Fund’s modern strategic framework and announced plans to allocate $35 million in loan funding over the next three years aimed at revitalizing the sugarcane sector, with expectations of increased production driving growth.

Highlighting the need for a united vision across the industry, Singh called for enhanced collaboration among all stakeholders to propel the sugar industry forward and secure its long-term viability. His push for a concerted effort aligns with ongoing efforts to strengthen Fiji’s agriculture sector, reflecting hope and dedication towards a sustainable future for sugarcane farmers.
