The Fiji Sugar Corporation Limited (FSC) has announced a temporary halt to crushing operations at the Rarawai Mill in Ba due to a mechanical issue identified in the boiler system. Bhan Pratap Singh, CEO of FSC, confirmed that the issue was recognized earlier today, prompting an immediate shutdown to facilitate urgent repairs.
Technical teams are currently on-site and working diligently to resolve the problem, with the expectation that the crushing operations will resume by midnight tomorrow, July 31, 2025. Singh expressed regret for the disruption this may cause to growers and other stakeholders involved. In the meantime, growers and lorry operators are encouraged to contact their respective sector officers for updates regarding the situation.
This situation echoes previous challenges faced by the FSC, particularly at the Lautoka Mill where mechanical problems have also resulted in operational suspensions. Similar incidents have underscored the importance of prompt maintenance and clear communication with stakeholders to ensure that disruptions are minimized, as emphasized in recent reports about the Lautoka Mill’s boiler issues. Proactive steps taken by the corporation, including regular updates to growers and lorry drivers, are designed to keep everyone informed and mitigate potential frustrations.
The ongoing commitment by FSC to address these mechanical issues and maintain operational stability is encouraging for the sugar industry in Fiji. Collaborative efforts among stakeholders can pave the way for better productivity in the coming months, ultimately benefiting farmers and the overall supply chain.
