Fiji Strong Wind Warning for Coastal Areas as Southeast Winds Up to 45 km/h Bring Showers and Possible Thunderstorms

A STRONG WIND WARNING REMAINS IN FORCE FOR COASTAL LAND AREAS FOR
YASAWA, RAKIRAKI, NABOUWALU, UDU POINT, TAVEUNI AND NEARBY SMALLER
ISLANDS, LAU AND LOMAIVITI GROUPS, KADAVU AND NEARBY SMALLER ISLANDS.
Situation: A weak trough of low pressure lies slow over the country
and gradually drifting eastwards away from the group. Meanwhile,
another trough of low pressure is expected to approach the group from
northeast later today. Associated cloud and showers are expected to
affect the northern and eastern parts of the group for the next few
days.

Forecast to midnight tomorrow for the Fiji group:
– For coastal land areas of Yasawa, Rakiraki, Nabouwalu, Udu point and
Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, Lau and Lomaiviti group, Kadavu
and nearby smaller islands: Southeast winds with average wind speeds
up to 45km/hr.
– For rest of Fiji: Moderate to fresh southeast winds, gusty at times.
Rough seas.
– Cloudy periods with some showers and possible thunderstorm over
Northern Division, Lau and Lomaiviti groups, Serua-Namosi,
Navua-Suva-Nausori, Tailevu-Naitasiri-Ra, Kadavu and nearby smaller
islands. Showers becoming frequent later tomorrow.
– Localised heavy falls may lead to flash-flooding of low lying areas.
– Fine apart from possible afternoon or evening showers elsewhere.
– Cool at night.

Outlook for Monday:

A STRONG WIND WARNING REMAINS IN FORCE FOR LAND AREAS AND WATERS OF ROTUMA.
Situation: A trough of low pressure with the associated cloud and showers affect Rotuma. Meanwhile, an easterly wind flow prevails over the island. Some showers and possible isolated thunderstorms.
Southeast winds with average wind speeds of 45 km/hr.
Rough seas.
Today’s Max: 29°C.
Tomorrow: Max 29°C, Min 23°C.
Outlook for Monday: Some showers and possible isolated thunderstorms. Max 29°C, Min 23°C.
