Fiji’s men’s 7s captain Jerry Matana has expressed a strong commitment to improvement as the national team gears up for the Singapore and Perth legs of the World Rugby Sevens Series. Following their participation in the recent Coral Coast 7s, Matana emphasized the importance of discipline as a critical area for development during training this week.
With several new players being integrated into the squad, Matana highlighted the team’s focus on addressing its weaknesses while fostering unity among the players. “We’re now getting ready for the two legs, Singapore and Perth. We need to work on our discipline; that is something I believe we lacked during the Coral Coast 7s. At the start of our training this week, we’re working on our weaknesses,” he stated.
The captain further underscored the significance of inclusion for newly added squad members, urging them to express the same confidence and flair they displayed at the club level within the national team framework. “We’ve told the new boys not to feel like outsiders, as this is also their team. Everything you showed Fiji from your clubs, please show it here as well,” Matana encouraged.
As the Fiji men’s 7s team intensifies its preparations over the coming days, it aims to make a strong comeback on the international stage at the Singapore and Perth tournaments. The Singapore 7s is scheduled to kick off next weekend, with coverage available live on FBC Sports. This upcoming opportunity presents a significant moment for the team to showcase their talents and unity as they strive for excellence on the world stage.
