Fiji has officially confirmed its participation in nine sports for the upcoming 2026 Commonwealth Games scheduled to be held in Glasgow from July 23 to August 2. The event will feature a more streamlined selection of sports compared to its predecessors. The confirmed sports for Team Fiji include basketball, athletics, para-athletics, para-powerlifting, bowls, boxing, judo, weightlifting, and swimming.
Fiji’s Chef de Mission, Ajay Ballu, noted that there are no new sports being added to the Fijian lineup for this edition of the Commonwealth Games. He mentioned that basketball has already secured a spot through the recent Palau Games, while other sports like weightlifting and various para-disciplines are still in the process of official qualification.
Additionally, CEO Vanessa Kilner shed light on the qualifying status of other sports, such as netball, which unfortunately did not qualify, and reiterated the ongoing uncertainties surrounding weightlifting, highlighting its need for confirmation from the International Federation.
Kilner expressed optimism about the talent within the Fijian delegation, emphasizing the strong potential for podium finishes. “I think we’ve actually got a really, really good team going into Glasgow. We’ve got some really good weightlifters that are targeted for Glasgow. We’ve got a great 3×3 basketball team that has come out of Palau,” she stated.
As the countdown to the Games continues, the final roster for Team Fiji is expected to be announced by May 25. The team is focused on logistical preparations and ensuring comprehensive support for the athletes as they gear up for a competitive outing in Glasgow.
