Fijians will face higher prices for cooking gas beginning tomorrow, as the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) announces new regulated pricing for fuel and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) products. A 4.5 kg gas cylinder will now be priced at $13.56, reflecting an increase of 23 cents, while a 12 kg cylinder will rise by 62 cents to a retail price of $36.17.

The price for bulk gas is set at $2.79, and auto gas will see a marginal increase, rising by four cents to retail at $1.92. In contrast, consumers can expect a decrease in fuel prices; motor spirit will drop by six cents to $2.55, premix will be priced at $2.39, and kerosene will see a reduction of 12 cents down to $1.74. Diesel will also see a decrease, now retailing at $2.18.

The FCCC emphasizes its commitment to price enforcement and compliance, stating that their team will be conducting inspections at wholesale and retail locations, as well as service stations, to ensure adherence to the authorized prices of petroleum and LPG products. The prices released by the FCCC are designated as maximum prices, allowing wholesalers and retailers the discretion to sell at or below these limits.

FCCC inspectors will continue monitoring compliance in the upcoming weeks, ensuring that both consumers are treated fairly and that the market operates within the established guidelines. This proactive approach reflects the FCCC’s dedication to maintaining transparency and accountability in Fijian markets.
