Fiji is set to garner significant attention for the upcoming Oceania Swimming Championships, thanks to a new broadcast partnership between the Fijian Broadcasting Corporation (FBC) and Fiji Swimming. This agreement will allow FBC to televise the competition, bringing the exciting event to viewers throughout Fiji and the broader Pacific region.

Eugene Panuve, the Treasurer of Fiji Swimming, expressed enthusiasm about the timing of the partnership, especially as Fiji Aquaics prepares to host its second Oceania competition following the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Panuve highlighted that the support from FBC will be essential in promoting the event and showcasing Fiji’s capabilities to the neighboring nations participating.

“This partnership with FBC has come at a perfect time for us as Fiji Aquatics. We are hosting our second Oceania competition and FBC will help us not only market this but also to broadcast it across the Pacific to all the nations who will be attending,” Panuve stated appreciatively.

The event is expected to elevate the profiles of some of the country’s top swimmers while serving as a source of inspiration for young aspiring athletes at the grassroots level. Panuve noted that such exposure allows budding swimmers to witness the level of competition they can aspire to achieve.

Teams from Australia and New Zealand have already confirmed their participation, with delegations from Tahiti and New Caledonia arriving early to train alongside Fiji’s squad in preparation for the meet.

FBC General Manager TV Sitiveni Halofaki emphasized the broadcaster’s dedication to supporting local sports organizations. He mentioned that fostering the growth of sports in Fiji aligns with FBC’s mission as a public broadcaster to promote local talent and contribute to the community.

The Oceania Swimming Championships will be held from May 8 to May 13, featuring thrilling open water races on the opening and closing days, and pool events scheduled from May 9 to May 12 during the initial school term holidays.

This partnership heralds a renewed commitment to competitive swimming in Fiji, potentially inspiring a new generation of athletic talent while also enhancing the region’s sporting visibility.
