The Fiji Sports Council has officially announced the return of the Vodafone Deans Trophy and Weet-Bix Raluve National Finals to the HFC Bank Stadium, scheduled for Saturday, August 23. This confirmation follows approval from the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Fiji Sports Council, Gilbert Vakalalabure, after discussions with the Fiji Secondary School Rugby Union (FSSRU).
The announcement ensures that all logistical and operational preparations are set in motion to successfully host these important school rugby events. Litia Senibulu, Manager of Operations at the Fiji Sports Council, expressed appreciation for the productive cooperation with the FSSRU, which has contributed to the smooth planning process leading up to the finals.
Earlier plans had suggested a relocation of the finals to the recently inaugurated Govind Park, raising concerns due to scheduling conflicts and the pitch conditions at other venues. The choice to hold the finals at HFC Bank Stadium honors tradition and is expected to attract a substantial number of fans, creating a vibrant atmosphere for the matches.
The Deans Trophy events are not only significant for the athletes but also demonstrate community resilience and enthusiasm for rugby among Fiji’s youth. The FSSRU continues to emphasize its commitment to providing robust competition opportunities, showcasing young talent and fostering community engagement through sport.
Preparation for the highly awaited matches promises to celebrate the passionate spirit of Fiji’s rugby culture, marking the finals as a highlight in the country’s sporting calendar. Fans can anticipate an exciting showcase of skill and teamwork, reinforcing the importance of rugby in uniting communities and nurturing the next generation of athletes.
