The Fiji Rugby Union is embarking on an exciting expansion of its development program in the Northern Division, as disclosed by acting CEO Koli Sewabu during the Fiji Institute of Chartered Accountants (FICA) 50th Annual Congress held in Nadi. This initiative aims to establish high-performance centers to enhance rugby development in the region, ensuring that local talent can be nurtured and retained.

Sewabu noted that local rugby unions in the North have already identified land suitable for these facilities, which is essential for keeping players in the region and strengthening the overall rugby pipeline. He used rugby as a metaphor to discuss business success, emphasizing the values of discipline, teamwork, and adaptability—principles crucial not only on the field but in various aspects of life and economic growth.

He expressed gratitude for speaking at such a prestigious event and underscored rugby’s pivotal role in contributing to Fiji’s economy and national identity. The acting CEO stated, “Understanding global economic changes and how we align ourselves with them is crucial—whether we like it or not, these shifts will impact us.”

Furthermore, Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica announced that alongside rugby developments, plans for an international airport and port in the Northern Division are progressing, aimed at fostering broader business opportunities. This infrastructure development aligns with a hopeful vision for the Northern Division, potentially transforming it into a vibrant hub for sports and tourism.

The integration of these initiatives signifies a promising future for rugby in Fiji, as they not only work towards strengthening the local game but also aim to elevate the overall standard of sports in the nation. With proper planning and a focus on infrastructure, Fiji Rugby is poised to inspire future generations and contribute significantly to national pride and economic vitality.

This expansion reflects a commitment to harnessing local talent and resources, which could lead to remarkable achievements in the world of rugby, further solidifying Fiji’s reputation as a rugby powerhouse.
