Former Fiji Water Flying Fijian No.8 Koli Sewabu has been appointed as the Acting CEO of the Fiji Rugby Union (FRU), following the resignation of Rovereto Nayacalevu for personal reasons. The decision came from the Board of Directors at Fiji Rakavi Football Union Ltd. Chairman John Sanday emphasized the board’s respect for Nayacalevu and expressed gratitude for his contributions to the organization.

Sewabu, who has extensive experience as both a player and a leader within rugby, aims to bring continuity and stability during this transitional phase. He acknowledged the challenges that Fiji Rugby has faced and highlighted the importance of leveraging his leadership skills to enhance Fijian rugby’s growth trajectory.

The FRU has reassured that this change in leadership will not disrupt its ongoing reforms. The organization continues to focus on strengthening governance, expanding commercial partnerships, and promoting both provincial unions and grassroots development. Sewabu’s appointment reflects a shared vision among board members to elevate the performance of both the men’s and women’s rugby programs leading up to significant events such as the Women’s Rugby World Cup.

Recent articles have noted Sewabu’s proactive approach, including his commitment to bolstering women’s rugby and preparing comprehensively for upcoming competitions. There is a collective sense of optimism as the newly elected board seeks to address historical challenges and create a sustainable foundation for the future of rugby in Fiji.

As this new chapter unfolds, the FRU embodies the hope that with strong leadership and strategic initiatives, Fiji Rugby can achieve notable success on both national and international stages, fostering a vibrant rugby culture for future generations.
