LAIJIPA Naulivou has officially taken over as the rugby director at the Fiji Rugby Union following the departure of former director Conway Beg, who stepped down due to personal and professional circumstances. This transition was announced by John Sanday, the chairman of the board of directors, during a press conference held at Rugby House in Suva.

Sanday expressed his enthusiasm for Naulivou’s appointment, highlighting her extensive background in rugby both as a player and an administrator. “Her skills and background in rugby are commendable. She’s highly regarded, and we respect that,” Sanday stated. He also noted her involvement in hockey, emphasizing her familiarity with sports and elite performance.

Naulivou herself is no stranger to the rugby scene, having captained the pioneering Fijiana 7s team during its inaugural appearance at the Hong Kong 7s in 1997. Her wealth of experience is seen as a significant asset for advancing Fiji’s rugby ambitions. Sanday expressed optimism about Naulivou’s contributions, stating, “We look forward to her efforts in building rugby in Fiji and working towards achieving Tier One status.”

In addition to her significant contributions to rugby, Naulivou is an academic with qualifications from the University of the South Pacific, where she earned degrees in Management and Public Administration, Applied Psychology, and Sports Psychology.

This appointment signifies a positive step for Fiji Rugby, reflecting a commitment to enhancing the sport’s development in the nation. With Naulivou at the helm, the future of rugby in Fiji looks promising.
