The Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) is embarking on a significant transformation across all levels, aiming to elevate the organization to meet Tier One standards in every aspect. This ambitious initiative involves recruiting individuals with specialized expertise, essential for advancing the union to its desired level of excellence.

A vital component of this overhaul is the development of a new strategic plan designed to align with contemporary rugby standards both on and off the field. FRU chief executive Koli Sewabu emphasized the importance of this alignment, stating, “That plan is aligned with World Rugby, Tier One nations, and SANZAAR, as well as with the teams we will be competing against in the upcoming months. There is a lot of work to be done for that, and it’s about getting the right people on board.”

In the coming weeks, the FRU plans to make announcements regarding new hires who possess the necessary skills and expertise to drive the organization forward. FRU Board chairman John Sanday indicated that an executive team would be introduced next week, confirming, “That will be the team that will hit the ground running when we hit the new year.”

With 2024 anticipated to be the biggest year in rugby history for Fiji, Sanday stressed the importance of establishing a solid foundation in the recruitment process to ensure procedural legitimacy and effectiveness. He also shared that the recruitment for the chief financial officer has been finalized, with an acting CEO appointed, both of which will be disclosed shortly.

This proactive approach demonstrates the FRU’s commitment to growth and success, setting the stage for a promising future in the sport. By strategically aligning with global rugby standards, Fiji hopes to enhance its competitiveness and foster a stronger rugby community.
