The Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) is set to enhance its analytical capabilities in the Skipper Cup competition through a significant investment in technology. The FRU has acquired five Hudl cameras, valued at approximately A$150,000, with the intention of refining game analysis. FRU Chairman John Sanday announced that each camera will be installed at one of the five venues hosting Skipper Cup matches every Saturday. This setup ensures that all ten competing teams will benefit from parallel filming during their matches.
Sanday highlighted the advanced features of the Hudl cameras, including panoramic views, automated tracking, HD quality, live streaming, and integration with Hudl’s analytics suite. With a capture capability of up to 180°, the cameras will provide immersive recordings that include real-time ball tracking and stereo audio, which captures every whistle and announcement during the games. This footage will be automatically uploaded to the Hudl platform, facilitating live coding and statistical tagging.
This initiative is expected to provide a competitive edge, as coaches will have the ability to conduct real-time tagging of player actions and analyze opponents’ patterns during games. Such technological advancements align with the FRU’s commitment to improving coaching standards and enhancing strategic preparations.
