The Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) is set to prioritize women’s rugby as it develops a new strategic plan for the upcoming years. Koli Sewabu, the CEO of FRU, announced that a dedicated “Women in Rugby Strategy” will be crafted in the coming weeks, which will be an integral part of the overarching strategic framework of the union.

Sewabu made these remarks during the FRU General Assembly held in Nadi, where member unions evaluated the 2025 season and discussed strategies for 2026 and beyond. He highlighted the assembly as a pivotal moment for the unions to reflect on their achievements and challenges, particularly concerning support from the domestic fund.

The meeting focused on various development aspects, including participation pathways, training and education, governance, and the administration of women’s rugby. Sewabu stressed the importance of the assembly as a platform for gathering feedback from member unions on the proposed strategic initiatives, noting that this feedback will form part of the final consultation before the new plan is ratified.

Additionally, the FRU proposed a calendar of activities for 2026 and beyond, aligning them with high-performance programs. Sewabu expressed confidence that the calendar could be nearly finalized, underscoring its alignment with the union’s commitment to enhance the sport’s competitive edge at both the domestic and international levels.

In his closing remarks, Sewabu expressed gratitude to the member unions for their ongoing support and engagement, emphasizing the importance of collaboration as Fiji Rugby aims to strengthen its foundations and promote women’s rugby in the years to come. This move reflects a broader commitment to inclusivity and the growth of the sport across all demographics.
