Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has announced that the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) will deploy a team to Vanuatu to aid in recovery efforts following a devastating 7.3-magnitude earthquake that struck the nation on Tuesday. The earthquake has tragically resulted in the loss of 14 lives, injured around 200 individuals, and caused significant destruction, including collapsed homes and landslides that have obstructed roads.

In response to the situation, Mr. Rabuka indicated that there are plans to repatriate any Fijians residing in Vanuatu if necessary. A Fiji Airways aircraft is on standby to assist with potential evacuations as the situation unfolds. The RFMF team is expected to stay in Vanuatu throughout the Christmas period to support ongoing relief operations.

The Prime Minister reaffirmed Fiji’s commitment to solidarity with its regional neighbors during crises, emphasizing the country’s dedication to assisting Vanuatu during this challenging time.

This relief effort not only demonstrates Fiji’s regional responsibilities but also showcases the spirit of collaboration and compassion among Pacific nations in times of adversity. It is a hopeful reminder that in the face of natural disasters, communities can come together to support one another, rebuilding and recovering stronger than before.
