Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has announced a forthcoming reshuffle of ministerial portfolios aimed at improving efficiency and fairness within the government. He expressed concerns regarding the current distribution of responsibilities among ministers, indicating that he has been dedicating late hours to review files, which he considers unfair to both the people of Fiji and the civil servants who depend on strong leadership.
Notably, Pio Tikoduadua, the Minister for Home Affairs, who is responsible for oversight of the Army, will temporarily step aside from his duties. This decision comes amid an investigation concerning the potential unauthorized issuance of passports to children of individuals linked to the human rights controversies surrounding the Grace Road group. Prime Minister Rabuka clarified that Tikoduadua is not under investigation for drug-related offenses.
In response to the investigation, Tikoduadua has pledged his full cooperation and expressed his commitment to restoring public trust that may have been affected by these developments.
This reshuffle reflects a proactive approach by Prime Minister Rabuka to ensure that the government’s leadership remains robust and accountable during a time of heightened scrutiny. It is hoped that these changes will not only enhance the efficiency of governance but also bolster public confidence in the government’s integrity and transparency.
