The Fiji Meteorological Service has announced that rain will begin to spread across most regions of the country starting tomorrow. A heavy rain alert is currently active for several areas, including Vanua Levu, the Yasawa and Mamanuca Groups, as well as the Western and Northern sections of Viti Levu, specifically the regions from Momi to Nadi, Lautoka, Ba through Tavua to Rakiraki, and the interior of Ba, Ra, Nadroga/Navosa, Serua/Namosi, Naitasiri, and Tailevu Provinces.

The alert is due to a trough of low pressure that is influencing weather patterns, causing cloud and rain primarily in the Western and Northern areas. As the weather system moves, it’s expected that rain will affect the entire country. Residents should prepare for the possibility of sporadic heavy rain and thunderstorms, with isolated thunderstorms potentially leading to significant rainfall.

Authorities caution that these weather conditions may result in flash flooding in lower-lying areas and could also decrease visibility on the roads.

As the rain approaches, it’s essential for communities to remain vigilant and prepared to deal with potential impacts. Clear communication and responsive measures will help ensure safety for all residents as they face these changes in weather.

It is hopeful to remember that the rainy season also contributes to replenishing water sources and maintaining the ecological balance, vital for both communities and agriculture in Fiji.
