The Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF) has announced the establishment of temporary exclusion zones around the Mamanuca Islands in preparation for the filming of the US Survivor Series, season 49. This filming is set to occur from April 15 to July 3, 2025, covering specific areas including Monu Riki Island, Tavua Island, Yadua Island, and Mana Island.
MSAF CEO Joweli Cawaki confirmed the creation of these exclusion zones, indicating that all ship owners, operators, and the general public must maintain a distance of at least one nautical mile from the designated filming locations during this period. The exclusion zones are critical to ensure the safety of both the filming crew and the vessels navigating the area.
As Fiji continues to solidify its reputation as a prime filming location, this announcement comes alongside the ongoing broadcast of Survivor’s season 48, which was also filmed in Fiji. The success of reality shows like Survivor further demonstrates Fiji’s appeal and potential economic benefits from the film industry, which contributed approximately $255 million to the economy last year.
The movie industry is becoming increasingly significant for Fiji, creating employment opportunities and showcasing local creativity. The fertile collaborations between MSAF and international productions reinforce the importance of maintaining a safe environment while boosting the local economy. The proactive measures taken to safeguard maritime activities during this filming period exemplify a commitment to both safety and the vibrant growth of Fiji’s film sector.
Fiji’s ongoing efforts to attract film productions not only enhance its global presence but also ensure that local talent and businesses thrive. This harmonious balance between safety and economic growth presents an optimistic outlook for the country’s future as a major filming destination.
