Concerns have been raised regarding high citizen-to-police ratios in Fiji’s Western and Central Divisions, particularly as the festive season approaches. The Fiji Police Force is taking proactive measures to ensure public safety, according to Acting Commissioner of Police Aporosa Lutunauga. In the Western Division, there is one police officer for every 250 citizens, while the Central Division has a ratio of one officer for every 444 citizens.
To manage the potential rise in criminal activity during this time, ACP Lutunauga emphasized the importance of strategic precautionary measures. He urged the community to take personal safety precautions, highlighting that cooperation and unity among citizens are essential for upholding law and order. Furthermore, he warned that individuals involved in criminal activities will face accountability.
ACP Lutunauga provided reassurance through recent swift arrests in high-profile cases, demonstrating the police force’s capacity for rapid and decisive responses to crime. He advised anyone considering engaging in criminal behavior to reconsider their choices.
Another concern highlighted by ACP Lutunauga is road safety, particularly regarding fatalities and incidents of drunk driving in the Western Division. He called on drivers to adhere to traffic laws to help ensure a safe festive season for everyone. The police’s commitment to community safety emphasizes their ongoing efforts to protect citizens during this busy time of year.
