The Fiji Police Force has committed to a comprehensive investigation into the tragic death of Police Constable Peni Racagi, emphasizing that this case will not join the ranks of unresolved cold cases. Constable Racagi, only 24 years old, was on duty at the Lami Police Station when he was found deceased, with his body discovered floating near the Lami Oceania Wesley Church on Sunday morning.

Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu has stated that the investigation team is diligently exploring new leads and is taking all relevant information seriously. He urged the public to come forward with any details that could assist in the investigation. “There is information that is coming up. They are taking the information seriously, and the line of investigation is heading in that direction. That is why I’m calling for the members of the public to support us if they have information in regards to that,” he noted.

Additionally, Commissioner Tudravu highlighted the importance of providing police officers with the necessary equipment and support to ensure their safety while carrying out their duties. He expressed the force’s dedication to improving officer welfare, stating, “What I’m doing for us, the leadership up at headquarters, is just to provide the necessary equipment that can assist them whilst they carry out their routine roles in the various stations that they are in.”

In his remarks, the Commissioner acknowledged the inherent risks associated with police work but affirmed that the force remains committed to public safety and the well-being of its officers. He pledged that those responsible for any violent acts will be held accountable.

This commitment from the police reflects a proactive approach to law enforcement in Fiji, fostering hope for justice in the wake of this tragedy and ensuring that the safety of both the community and police personnel remains a priority.
