Minister for Policing Ioane Naivalurua has emphasized the importance of vigilance and focus for police officers during the festive season. Addressing the officers at a Thanksgiving Church Service held at Centenary Church in Suva, he encouraged them to maintain a mission-focused and results-oriented approach.
During his speech, Mr. Naivalurua stressed the significance of staying concentrated on their responsibilities. “I want to urge you all to be keeping the main thing, the main thing; no matter what we do, we don’t ever lose focus on the task at hand,” he remarked. He highlighted that families and communities should enjoy the festive season and called on police personnel to step up their efforts at the frontline, stating, “We remain ready, we stay vigilant, and we might not sleep at the frontline.”
The Minister acknowledged the commitment of the officers throughout the year and encouraged them to persevere despite encountering challenges. “These are testing times, but we need to continue to do our duty and should never step back,” he added.
Mr. Naivalurua also made a poignant call to address social issues, particularly in relation to the honor and protection of women and girls. “We are here to honor our women and girls; we are always being pointed to these issues but let’s take it head-on,” he stated, reinforcing the need for the police to be proactive in their response.
In closing, he extended best wishes for a safe Christmas and a prosperous New Year to all officers. The annual service not only provided an opportunity for reflection on the year’s work but also served as a moment for police personnel to renew their commitment to community safety and strengthen their faith amid a spirit of gratitude.
As the festive season approaches, this message serves as a reminder of the dedication required to serve and protect the community while also fostering a supportive environment for addressing social challenges.
