The Fiji Police Force is actively advising residents in flood-prone areas of the Western Division to relocate to higher ground as a precautionary measure. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, highlighted that ongoing rainfall has already caused flooding in certain locations.

ACPO Driu emphasized the importance of immediate action, urging individuals to evacuate to higher ground or designated Evacuation Centres. He also assured the public that police teams are ready to assist in facilitating these moves, especially to ensure safety before darkness falls. “Moving at night poses considerable risks for both residents and our ground officers,” he stated.

The officer drew attention to the police’s primary role of protecting life and property, reaffirming their commitment to being available for support. For assistance in relocating, residents can contact the Western Division Command and Coordination Center at 9905457.

Overall, this proactive approach by the Fiji Police serves to prioritize community safety and well-being during adverse weather conditions. It highlights the importance of timely action in crisis situations, encouraging solidarity and preparedness among the community.

In summary, as the weather conditions remain unpredictable, the collaboration between authorities and the communities can foster a resilient response, ensuring everyone’s safety.
