Fiji’s Commissioner of Police, Rusiate Tudravu, recently emphasized that internal development is key to advancing the Fiji Police Force (FPF). Speaking at a Senior Officers Seminar in Suva, he affirmed, “Nobody can come from outside to take this organisation forward,” underlining the importance of teamwork in implementing the Australian Federal Police-supported FPF Uplift program. This seminar also addressed the strategic plan for the Fiji Police Force for 2025 to 2029.

Minister for Policing, Ioane Naivalurua, framed the seminar as timely amidst rapid changes, including rising cyber threats and climate-driven security risks. He emphasized that in such a dynamic environment, law enforcement serves as a national pillar.

Commissioner Tudravu’s focus on internal reforms aligns with the aspirations of the UPLIFT program, designed to restore public confidence through effective governance and operational enhancements. Previous articles have noted that the UPLIFT initiative operates on seven core pillars, such as leadership and integrity, aimed at transforming the police force’s relationship with the community.

The commitment to building a police force that is accountable and professional reflects a promising trajectory for law enforcement in Fiji, focused on fostering public trust and ensuring community safety in a rapidly changing landscape. As the police force embarks on this journey of reform, the potential for renewed public confidence in their capabilities is a hopeful prospect for the citizens of Fiji.
