Officers from the Fiji Detector Dog Unit (FDDU) and the Western Division Dog Unit arrested three individuals early this morning for alleged unlawful possession of illicit drugs in Saweni, acting on a disturbance report.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, indicated that the K9 units are not only employed for specialized tasks but are also integrated into routine policing and incident responses. Upon arrival at the location, officers observed suspicious behavior and requested assistance from the FDDU. A subsequent search revealed clear plastic bags containing a white substance that is believed to be methamphetamine. The primary suspect, identified as the homeowner, fled the scene, and efforts to locate him are ongoing.

In a separate incident the previous day in Labasa, police discovered an unattended bag at the market which contained several packets of green leaves thought to be marijuana.

ACP Driu emphasizes that law enforcement is intensifying its efforts, deploying multiple units to tackle both minor and major crimes in the region. This commitment to proactive policing reflects the ongoing challenges posed by drug-related activities but also offers a hopeful perspective on the future of public safety. The collaboration among various police units illustrates a determined approach to reducing drug-related crime and nurturing a safer community for all citizens.
