Police have confirmed that a raid on a residence in Denarau, Nadi, on Friday resulted in the discovery of substances that tested negative for illicit drugs, specifically a white powder. However, the analysis of dried leaves found at the scene has returned positive for marijuana. Following the raid, a businessman was taken in for questioning but has since been released as investigations continue.
This incident highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement in Fiji to combat drug-related activities. Similar operations recently conducted by the Fiji Detector Dog Unit in various locations, including Lami and Labasa, have led to multiple arrests and confiscations of marijuana and other substances.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, emphasized the importance of community involvement in these operations, stating that public assistance has been pivotal in cracking down on illegal drug activities. Authorities remain vigilant and proactive in their pursuit to create a safer environment for citizens.
While the situation reflects concerning drug activity, it also underscores the commitment of law enforcement to address these issues relentlessly. With continued support from the community, there may be hope for a decline in drug-related offenses in the region.
