The Fiji Police Force has released a statement clarifying the circumstances surrounding recently circulated footage of an accident. Contrary to popular belief, the video was not recorded during a regular traffic checkpoint but instead depicts a fatal accident that occurred in Talenaua last month.
The police explained that officers were actively engaged in clearing the road following the incident when the collision took place. They noted that the bus involved had reduced its speed as it neared the accident site. However, a moment of distraction resulted in the unfortunate crash.
The officer present in the footage was managing traffic for vehicles traveling in the opposite direction and was not conducting traffic checks as some have suggested.
The Fiji Police Force emphasized the importance of public cooperation at both crash and crime scenes. They stressed that such cooperation is essential for maintaining safety and enabling emergency services to operate effectively. This incident serves as a reminder of the need for vigilance and awareness while navigating through potentially hazardous situations.
