Fiji’s peacekeepers stationed in the Golan Heights as part of the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force and the United Nations Truce Supervision Organisation are reported to be safe amidst recent regional developments. Defence Minister Pio Tikoduadua has assured the public that all Fijian personnel are accounted for and that necessary security measures have been implemented.

On Sunday, December 8, Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) undertook operations within the demilitarised zone to address rising rebel activity. While UN positions were not specifically targeted during these operations, measures are being put into place to recover equipment that was temporarily impacted by rebel incursions.

The IDF is reinforcing security in the region, and local community support for peacekeepers is crucial in sustaining stability. Additionally, a Fijian officer has safely returned to Camp Faour following an evacuation from Damascus.

Although the operational area remains tense, there is currently no immediate threat to Fijian peacekeepers. The Defence Ministry is closely watching the situation and has praised the professionalism displayed by the troops.

This situation highlights the resilience and dedication of peacekeepers in challenging environments, reaffirming the commitment of Fijian forces to uphold peace and security in the region. The continued collaboration between local communities and international forces is also a positive indicator of efforts to maintain stability in volatile areas.
