The Ministry of Policing and Communications is actively engaging the public in consultations regarding a proposed Counter Narcotics Bill designed to establish and empower a dedicated Counter Narcotics Bureau. This initiative aims to strengthen Fiji’s efforts in combatting illicit drug activities.

In an official statement, the Ministry announced that it will conduct comprehensive consultations nationwide to gather insights, concerns, and recommendations from individuals, communities, and institutions on the proposed legislation and the bureau’s powers.

Members of the public, civil society organizations, private institutions, and other stakeholders are encouraged to provide written feedback, sharing their perspectives on the potential impact of the legislation. Submissions can be sent via email to cnbill@policing.gov.fj, with the deadline for online submissions set for 11.59 PM on February 23, 2026.

Furthermore, the consultation team will hold in-person public meetings across Fiji from February 9 to February 23, 2026. Interested individuals and organizations are invited to participate in these sessions at designated venues throughout different divisions during this time.

The Ministry emphasizes that this consultation process aims to ensure the proposed law aligns with public interests, enhances Fiji’s response to drug-related issues, and promotes transparency and accountability within the governmental framework. This initiative reflects a proactive approach to gather community input, showcasing the Ministry’s commitment to engaging with citizens on key legislative matters.
