The Topical Disturbance (TD 01F) is posing a significant weather threat to the Fiji Group, with a low but present potential to develop into a Tropical Cyclone. The Fiji Meteorological Service reported that as of noon today, TD01F was located approximately 240 kilometers west of Yasawa-i-rara and 270 kilometers west-northwest of Nadi. The disturbance is moving southeast at around 20 kilometers per hour.

In response to the approaching weather system, a heavy rain warning has been issued for all of Fiji, while a strong wind warning is in effect for coastal areas in the western and northern parts of Viti Levu—specifically from Sigatoka to Nadi, Lautoka, Ba through Tavua to Rakiraki, as well as the interiors of Ba, Ra, Nadroga/Navosa, and the Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, among others.

Flood alerts are active for areas prone to flooding alongside major rivers, and flash flood warnings have been issued for low-lying areas and small streams, particularly in Vanua Levu and various western parts of Viti Levu. As TD01F nears the region later today, periods of rainfall, intense at times, along with thunderstorms, are expected, fueled by strong northwest winds.

Local heavy rain may exacerbate flooding in already saturated areas, especially downstream of significant rivers and small streams. River levels throughout the country are anticipated to rise as rainfall intensifies.

In light of this situation, it is important for residents to stay informed and take necessary precautions in response to the warnings, as the community often comes together in times of adverse weather. Preparedness can significantly mitigate potential impacts and keep families safe.

Overall, efforts from meteorological services and community readiness can help navigate through the challenges posed by the weather disturbance, fostering a sense of resilience among Fijians during these times.
