A topical disturbance known as TD 01F is currently affecting the Fiji Group, bringing the potential for heavy rainfall through tomorrow. The Fiji Meteorological Service reported that TD 01F was situated approximately 240 kilometers west of Yasawa-i-rara and 270 kilometers west-northwest of Nadi as of noon today. The system is moving southeast at a speed of around 20 kilometers per hour.

As a result of this disturbance, a heavy rain warning is in effect for the entire Fiji group. In addition, a strong wind warning has been issued for coastal areas in the western and northern parts of Viti Levu, including regions from Sigatoka to Nadi, Lautoka, Ba, and other neighboring areas. The warning also extends to the interior regions of Ba, Ra, and Nadroga/Navosa, as well as the Yasawa and Mamanuca islands, Vatulele, Kadavu, Vanua Levu, Taveuni, and nearby islands.

Authorities have issued a flood alert for flood-prone areas next to and downstream of the main rivers in Fiji. A flash flood warning is also active for low-lying and flash flood-prone regions, especially in Vanua Levu and the interior and western sections of Viti Levu.

Consistent rainfall, with heavy showers and occasional thunderstorms, is anticipated as TD 01F approaches Fiji. Strong northwest winds are expected to accompany the system until it passes by tomorrow. Due to the already saturated ground conditions, localized heavy rainfall may lead to flash floods in vulnerable areas downstream of the major rivers and small streams. River levels across the country are likely to rise as additional rain falls with the approach of TD 01F.

This situation emphasizes the importance of remaining vigilant and prepared for potential flooding, particularly in flood-prone areas. Community awareness and preparedness can help mitigate risks as this weather event unfolds. It is recommended for residents to heed warnings from local authorities and stay updated on weather forecasts.
