A flash flood warning is currently in effect for all small streams and low-lying areas across Fiji, as announced by the Nadi weather office. This alert is primarily due to heavy rainfall associated with Tropical Cyclone Rae, which is affecting the Northern and Eastern divisions of the country.

Residents are cautioned that the combination of significant rainfall and poor drainage conditions may lead to flooding. Areas that are particularly vulnerable to such floods include roads, properties, and low water bridges, especially during high tide. Communities in regions like Sigatoka, Nadi, Lautoka, Ba, Tavua, and Rakiraki are among those that may experience inundation.

Similar warnings have been issued recently as an active convergence zone and troughs of low pressure have brought persistent rain across the island nation, raising concerns about drainage systems and ground saturation. Many low-lying areas have already faced challenges, leading to flooding and interruptions to traffic.

Despite the challenging weather, there remains hope as communities are reminded of their resilience in adversity. Local authorities are closely monitoring the situation and urge residents to remain prepared and informed, thus fostering a spirit of solidarity and cooperation in navigating the ongoing weather challenges.

This period serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of weather patterns and the necessity for community preparedness in the face of natural disasters.
