Emergency operations centers in the Western Division of Fiji are set to remain operational as the Fiji Meteorological Service predicts continued rainfall throughout the weekend. Divisional Commissioner Western, Apolosi Lewaqai, has urged the public to take necessary precautions in anticipation of the persistent rain.

In a positive development, food rations have been distributed to 61 families currently sheltered in evacuation centers in Nadi. These families were affected by recent flooding and are temporarily residing in locations including Andrews Primary School, Saioni Church, Korovuto Secondary School, and the Vou Dance Group Office.

In addition to food support, various faith-based organizations, non-governmental agencies, local businesses, and the Ministry of Health have provided assistance in the form of cooked meals, bottled water, food supplies, and hygiene kits to those in the evacuation centers.

For those in need of assistance, the following contact numbers have been provided:
– Commissioner Western’s Office: 6664946
– Commissioner Western’s Direct Line: 9937346
– Nearest Police Station: Contact your local station for emergencies.

This coordinated response highlights the community’s resilience and the spirit of support amongst organizations and individuals in times of crisis. As the weather continues to pose challenges, the ongoing dedication to helping those in need showcases the strength of the community in overcoming adversity.
