The Fiji Meteorological Service has issued a warning as Tropical Disturbance TD07F approaches the nation, bringing the potential for heavy rainfall and strong winds across various regions. At 7am today, the disturbance was positioned approximately 820 kilometers north-northwest of Nadi, moving southeast at a rate of about 15 kilometers per hour.

While forecasters anticipate that TD07F may strengthen into a tropical depression later in the day, they note that the likelihood of it developing into a tropical cyclone remains low due to unfavorable environmental conditions. It is important to mention that the center of the system is expected to stay west of Fiji, but rainbands associated with TD07F are already influencing parts of the country.

Currently, these rainbands are situated to the west of the Yasawa and Mamanuca islands, projected to advance eastward, bringing heavy rain and strong north-northwesterly winds in their wake. A heavy rain warning has been declared for all of Fiji, and strong wind warnings are in place for several land areas, including the Yasawa and Mamanuca Group, western Viti Levu, northern Vanua Levu, and Kadavu.

Additionally, marine areas including Yasawa and Mamanuca waters, southwest Viti Levu waters, northern Vanua Levu waters, Kadavu waters, and the Vatu-i-Ra Passage are also facing strong wind warnings. The Fiji Meteorological Service is advising residents, particularly those in flood-prone regions, to stay vigilant and adopt necessary precautions to ensure their safety during this weather event.

As the situation develops, it is critical for communities to stay informed and prepared, highlighting the resilience of the Fijian people in facing natural disturbances.
