Significant changes are on the verge of being implemented within the Fiji Netball Association (FNA) as they recently convened a meeting to discuss revisions to their constitution. In attendance were 13 dedicated members, who collaborated to formulate a transparent and equitable vision for the future of netball in Fiji.

Vivian Koster, the former Netball Fiji CEO and Oceania Netball Regional Director, highlighted the significance of this meeting, referring to it as a pivotal point marking the dawn of a new year with aspirations to finalize the new constitution. She commended the collective efforts of the participants, acknowledging their commitment to reviewing and enacting the necessary amendments.

“We started off the new year with what we hope will be the final draft of our new constitution; it has been a long process,” Koster noted. She expressed gratitude towards the group, stating, “They have really come together to examine the constitution and implement essential changes.”

The primary focus of these revisions is the governance structure of Netball Fiji. The association intends to shift from an executive committee model to a board of management—a transition that has been in consideration for some time. Koster explained, “It’s going to be a new structure for Netball Fiji, and a new way of doing things. We have meticulously reviewed everything to ensure we are well-prepared for the year ahead.”

Koster emphasized the need for a comprehensive and robust constitution that eliminates any potential loopholes and accurately represents the growth and aspirations of all netball clubs and associations across Fiji. “We want to ensure that the document is solid and reflects the ambitions of every netball club and association in Fiji,” she asserted.

The meeting was reported to be productive, reflecting a process enriched by multiple discussions and a concerted effort from all involved. As a result, the FNA is confident that by establishing a strong constitution, it is laying a substantial foundation for the future development of netball in Fiji. This initiative marks an exciting and hopeful new chapter for the sport, fostering collaboration and inclusivity among clubs and associations.
