The Republic of Fiji Navy recently completed a successful four-day Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) Exercise Limasagavulu in Kadavu. This operation included various maritime drills aimed at enhancing unit coordination and operational readiness within the naval division.
During the exercise, the task group executed essential activities, such as patrol formation maneuvers, communication checks, and maritime security procedures. Upon arrival at Dravuni, the navy personnel undertook reconnaissance operations, secured designated food distribution zones, and assessed simulated post-disaster damage in a village environment.
While these shore-based activities continued, the RFNS Timo engaged in live-firing exercises at designated open-sea areas, focusing on maintaining the crew’s proficiency in naval gunnery. Additionally, the RFNS Volasiga conducted hydrographic survey operations to update maritime navigation data for the surrounding waters.
This exercise was not only vital for improving the Navy’s disaster response capabilities but also emphasized the importance of inter-agency coordination and readiness to deliver timely assistance to remote maritime communities during emergencies. The Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) underscored that such initiatives are essential for fostering resilience in the face of increasing weather-related challenges linked to climate change, similar to previous exercises like Exercise Croix du Sud.
As Fiji continues to strengthen its disaster response capabilities, the commitment displayed during this exercise brings a hopeful perspective for enhanced collaboration and preparedness within the region, contributing to a secure and resilient Pacific community.
