The Republic of Fiji Navy celebrated the close of the year with a ceremony at Navy Headquarters, VMESC, this morning, marking a significant milestone in its ongoing development and commitment to leadership within its ranks.
During the event, three Midshipmen—Melibua, Tikicidre, and Waqabuli—were commissioned into the officer corps. This achievement recognizes their successful completion of training and paves the way for their new roles as leaders. The Navy attributed their success to their personal determination, the support of their families, and the organization’s unwavering investment in nurturing future leaders.
In addition, personnel were honored with the RFN 50th Anniversary Medal, a tribute to decades of service, loyalty, and sacrifice. This accolade highlights the vital contributions of Navy members as they have guided the institution from its inception to its current operations.
The ceremony also included a heartfelt farewell for Chief Perreira from the Royal Australian Navy, who received thanks for his professionalism and longstanding friendship with the RFN.
Throughout 2025, the Fiji Navy has concentrated on enhancing leadership, raising professional standards, and providing robust support to its personnel. The organization announced plans to broaden its operational footprint by establishing Forward Operating Bases in Malau, Savusavu, Lautoka, Nadi, Levuka, and potentially in Lomaiviti and Lau. This expansion aligns with the Commander RFMF’s objective of increased operational reach and improved situational awareness.
The Commander of the Fiji Navy expressed gratitude for the year’s accomplishments, emphasizing the importance of discipline, consistency, and high standards. He reminded team members of their duty to serve the people of Fiji.
As the festive season nears, the RFN took the opportunity to acknowledge the invaluable support from families, partners, and defense agencies that stand behind sailors, officers, and civilian staff throughout the year.
